Maradona
Diego Maradona was born on October 30, 1960, in Villa Fiorito, a province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Maradona was the fifth of eight children raised by Diego Sr. and Doña Tota, he lived in serious poverty in a same but close-knit household. He received his first soccer ball as a gift at age 3 and quickly became ardently devoted to the game. Winning the 1986 FIFA World Cup with Argentina in Mexico he portrayed marvelous and overwhelming skill that mesmerized his fans. As a short but fearless midfielder he was also renowned for his ability to create scoring chances for himself. Altogether, Maradona played in four World Cups, and scored an impressive of 34 goals in 91 international appearances for Argentina. This really made Argentina stand on its feet.
With a bright and mesmerizing future Maradona too had a dark foggy past. And it still haunts him till today. Maradona was addicted to cocaine a drug that causes overconfidence, carelessness, sickness, sleeplessness and mental illness such as stress and mood swings (Riley, 86) while playing in Spain in the 1980s and received a 15-month suspension after testing positive for the substance in 1991. Maradona ended up another suspension three years later, this time for testing positive for ephedrine during the World Cup.
He then announced and declared his retirement on the day before his birthday in 1997. The story of Maradona’s cocaine addiction was tragic because he failed to fulfill his potential as one of the most blessed soccer players ever. However to overcome this stressful and pressurize situation he was then hired to coach the Argentinean national team in 2008. This has helped him to forget and move further in life. Being occupied with physical activities he gradually tend to forget his past memories. However this has also taught all of us a lesson not to get involved in crime even if you are in maximum pressure and you have no hope. There is always a ray of hope in our lives. If you cannot live for yourself, live for others. That is it. During then he tried his best to forget about the incidents in past and finally he succeeded.
